Raleigh International (formerly Operation Drake (1978 - 80), Operation Raleigh (1984 - 88) and Raleigh International (1992 - 2022)) worked with young people around the world for over 44 years. Raleigh constantly evolved but always focused on supporting young people to take action and create change for themselves, their communities, and the world.
Raleigh International was a youth-driven organisation supporting a global movement of young people to take action towards a a fair, inclusive, and green world where young people confront the planet’s most urgent crises.
The charity existed to support young people by connecting them with the skills, networks, platforms, and experiences to lead action on the change they demand. Raleigh proudly worked with more than 55,000 young people from over 100 countries creating a global community dedicated to supporting youth-led action.are creating a generation of young leaders who are taking action now.
Raleigh worked globally to promote the role of young people in decision-making and civil society, creating meaningful youth employment and enterprise opportunities, protecting vulnerable environments and combating climate change, and ensuring the right to safe water and sanitation.
Today there are 1.2 billion young people worldwide, accounting for 16 per cent of the global population. By 2030, the youth population is projected to have grown by 7 per cent to nearly 1.3 billion. As a generation, young people have the potential to be a force for global change and are already at the forefront of solving some of the planet’s biggest issues.
While young people today are growing up in turbulent times - during a global pandemic and an ever-growing climate emergency – they are taking meaningful action to drive forward impactful initiatives needed for a sustainable future. They are creative, innovative, and the most technologically savvy generation ever. They are socially conscious and environmentally aware and work together to tackle issues in their local communities, countries and globally.
Young people are not just leaders of tomorrow – they are leaders today. When they are provided with the knowledge, skills, and networks, they will play a leading role in building a better and more sustainable world for everyone.
